Guns
I strongly support the right to bear arms, as stated in the second amendment to the U.S. Constitution. As a people, we like to hunt and shoot recreationally. We need to be able to protect ourselves and our families, if necessary.
As a police officer in Santa Barbara, California, I learned about guns, how to shoot them and store them safely. My experience is that when access to guns is too restricted, the public cannot obtain them and criminals are the only ones who have them. I would never support legislation that removes or unduly restricts our ability to purchase and keep guns in our home. There are some places that guns are inappropriate, like airports or inside prisons. While I certainly do not want guns in my granddaughter's kindergarten class, I am reluctant to restrict guns any more than absolutely necessary.
